Attention Traps - Video Content Tips to Grab Your Audience's Attention.

Video content is taking social media by storm. Whether it’s informational videos of how to bake sourdough bread, to cute videos of kittens playing with puppies, the consumption of video content has skyrocketed across social media as a whole. But there’s so much more to it than simply sharing a video to your Instagram of TikTok profile, especially as a small business owner, or someone who has a personal brand.

In this episode of The Brand Burrow, Brittini, Brooklyn, Dana and Mahala take a deep dive into how average folks, personal brands and businesses can utilize this versatile content type, and what we think the key is to trap your audience's attention to keep them engaged and coming back for more.

Why should you incorporate video into your social media content strategy?

Leveraging video on social media is necessary to capture and satisfy a content-hungry audience, and good social media marketers understand this. Since this form of content dominates the space, video is typically one of the first things you will see when you log on to your favourite platform.

This is because video content typically performs best with most algorithms, based on the simple fact that it captures a viewer’s attention faster and for longer. Viewers often expect brands and businesses to deliver engaging, entertaining content on social media more now than ever before, and video is one of the most effective formats to do so.

Most important of all, video has a much longer lifespan than other forms of social media content. Videos that are a few months old can resurface in your feed frequently, depending on your scrolling and search habits. Video posts have a tenancy to stay in the ecosystem of your social media feed for a longer period of time, because it generates more shares and interactions by other people who use the platform.

What can you do to create more engaging video content?

First, you can listen to the examples provided in the podcast recording above! However, if some of those suggestions don’t align with your social media content strategy, we’ve created a quick list of things to keep in mind that you can apply to your video posts to help generate more engagement on your content.

  1. Be AuthenticAs mentioned in the podcast, more people found videos with minor errors in them to be more engaging while scrolling social media. When you or your business can show up online authentically, the human-element behind your business is put forward, and ultimately keeps your audience more in tune with your video.

  2. Spark Curiosity – Share tidbits of information that you think will be interesting and of VALUE  to your viewers. This can be a great way to share more about you, your business or a service that people may not know about.

  3. Be CreativeThink about new ways to showcase your information and consider mixing up your media, like graphic design and animation with video footage or photographs to create unique visuals that represent your business or brand.

  4. Know Your Audience – Alright, we know. This is something that EVERY marketer says. But there’s a reason why! Knowing your audience, regardless of your social media content strategy, is a key element to having success with your video posts. Researching and understanding your the audience you want to target is essential in creating relevant and engaging video content that resonates with them. This can include things like geographical locations, age groups, and the interests of the people you’re trying to reach.

  5. Have a Strategy – We know that coming up with compelling video content can be difficult, even at the best of times. The good news is, your video content strategy doesn’t need to be overwhelming or expensive!
